Creative solutions for complex divorce issues

One of the first things you need to realize about your divorce is that it isn't like anyone else's divorce. Advice from friends or family members who have been through it can be helpful, but no one else has your unique set of circumstances, reasons, relationships and a whole host of other factors.

These factors can make the case rather complex. A cookie-cutter approach doesn't work. You need creative solutions.

For example, you may need to be creative when setting up a parenting plan. Because of your ex's work schedule, a traditional setup where the kids live with you and visit him or her on the weekends may not work. Are you flexible enough to try out non-traditional ideas and find a plan that fits your family?

Don't try to force your life to fit the plan; create a plan that fits your life.

Creativity may be needed when life changes, as well. What if you get a new job, but it's in a different city? Are you allowed to relocate, or would that make it impossible for your ex to see the kids? What is allowed under the divorce agreement?

Parents often feel like they have to choose between children and careers, but there may be a way that you can take the job opportunity, still see your kids and find an agreement that your spouse likes. Don't be afraid to think outside of the box.

We work hard to find creative solutions when they're needed. If you have any questions about how we do this, our website can offer a lot of helpful information.
