Tips to help you through a tough divorce

Divorce may not be easy. You may want it, you may be glad to get out of the relationship, and it can still be hard. These tips can help you get through the process:

1. Don't forget about your support network.

Trying to go through it alone makes it even harder. Friends and family will be there to help you. Don't be afraid to ask for help -- or just to vent.

2. Listen to your friends.

Sometimes, the best thing is a different perspective. When you talk to your friends, make sure you listen. They can sometimes shed light on things in a way you'd never see yourself.

3. Remember that not everyone will be on your side, and that's all right.

Some people may side with your ex. They may think you're in the wrong, no matter how much you tell them you're not or how obvious it is that no one is in the wrong -- the marriage is just ending. You have enough to deal with during the divorce; you don't need to stress out about making everyone happy.

4. Focus on the future.

Don't spend all of your time thinking about the loss of the marriage. Instead, focus on what you've gained for the future. Keeping a positive outlook not only helps keep you sane, but it helps as you craft your divorce agreement and fight for your rights, since they directly impact that future.

Divorce may not be easy, but that doesn't mean there's nothing you can do to get through it with a positive outcome. Remember all of your rights and what legal steps you can take to protect them.
