The harsh reality of being a single father

Everyone wants the best for their children, and with that a secure family unit is seen by society as the ideal. But often that is not realistic; relationships fall apart, rifts divide and parents separate or decide to divorce. But just because a family is not a traditional unit doesn't mean that you cannot provide a loving support system for your children. More fathers than ever are single fathers, and although it can be difficult to raise your children partially or completely alone, it's a great foundation for a child's development.

Being a single father is inexplicably rewarding, but it doesn't come without its challenges. The following blog contains some amusing but unfortunate anecdotes of the reality of being a single father.

Single parenting pushes you to become a better parent

Being a single parent is extremely challenging. But with the likely split custody that you share with the other parent, you are able to have a break from the kids and have a chance both to reflect on yourself and grow as a parent.

You might not get the credit you deserve

You may feel as though dads get a bad wrap. There seems to be so much praise for mothers and you might be wondering where all the credit lies for single, hardworking dads. But the love that you have for your children will transcend all of that.

Single parenting is rewarding beyond measure

It might be the hardest thing you ever do, but it will be the best thing you ever do as well. Being a single father requires that you grow as a person and extend yourself so that you can be the best father possible.
