If you’re looking for a family law attorney who will give it to you straight and won’t back down in the courtroom, Mary Van Orman is the attorney for you. A seasoned litigator with more than three decades of experience, Mary fights tirelessly for her clients and is especially passionate about serving and protecting clients and children in matters involving child custody and family violence.
According to attorney Justin Sisemore, founder of the Sisemore Law Firm, “I’m excited that seasoned attorney Mary Van Orman has joined our firm. Mary checks all of the boxes when it comes to experience, wisdom, compassion and passion—critical traits for clients who need a caring and accomplished attorney by their side. These assets, along with her natural curiosity, adaptability and enthusiasm also serve as an inspiration to our team.”
Attorney Mary Van Orman was born in Massachusetts, where she developed her no-nonsense demeanor and passion for everything sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. During her high school years, Mary and her family relocated to Texas. In 1987, she graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a double major in political science/criminal justice and sociology. Mary earned her law degree from South Texas College of Law Houston in 1993.
Mary chose family law because she has always felt driven to fight hard to help people stand up for their rights. She will leave no stone left unturned when it comes to protecting her clients— especially children—and is passionate about helping underdogs. A cancer survivor and victim of family violence herself, Mary will do whatever it takes to protect clients dealing with domestic violence or fight vigorously to get justice for those who are falsely accused.
From 1995 to 2020, Mary practiced law out of her own family law firm in Houston. During the pandemic, she moved to California and took a hiatus from family law to focus on her son’s health and launch a non-profit—Get SAFE Help—inspired by his struggle to get the resources he needed in school as a type 1 diabetic. Proud of her recent UCLA grad and ready to reembrace family law, Mary moved back to Texas and joined the Sisemore Law Firm in 2025.
If Mary could pick one thing to do outside of work, it would be spending time with her son. Now that he’s spread his wings and she’s back in Texas, the self-described sports nut likes to stay active and spend any spare moment she can cheering on her hometown Boston teams. Given the chance, she’ll travel to see them, which she was delighted to do when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2018. Mary is also a fan of horse racing and was even part of a horse racing ownership syndicate for several years.
